The sector most touched by technology is certainly agriculture, where is privileged a technique of intensive type to obtain the maximum, also from small plots of land or little livestock.
It is common the massive use of not natural agents to increase the product of a soil; are not even rare conditions of breeding livestock; animals are kept in huge sheds divided into cages of very little measures, calls "feedlots", consequently each shed makes maximum use of the space that is available.
In these farms animals are kept stationary at grease and supercharged for 3-5 months and then slaughtered.
USA boast over 100 million cattle, over 58 million pigs and a very high number of sheep.
The breedings are distinguished between holdings animals used for milk and holdings animals for slaughter.
The slaughter areas include Texas and the Occidental Mountains, where there is a great availability of grasslands for grazing; the areas where farming has as its aim the milk are the North-East, the Appalachian Mountains and the Great Lakes area, this part of the territory is called "dairy belt".
The cultures are divided in so-called belt.
The 'wheat belt'
The cultivation of wheat is also practiced in some states of North as Minnesota, Dakota and Montana, where the grain is cultivated in spring because the winter is too cold.
This culture is also widespread in some areas of the South as Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma, where the grain is cultivated in autumn.
The 'corn belt'
The "corn belt", the belt of maize, comprises those States which enjoy a mild climate throughout the year like Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska.
Thanks to the very high production, USA is the first world producer of maize in addition to this, was recently added the production of soya called "corn-soy belt".
