AGRICULTURE

The sector most touched by technology is certainly agriculture, where is privileged a technique of intensive type to obtain the maximum, also from small plots of land or little livestock.
It is common the massive use of not natural agents to increase the product of a soil; are not even rare conditions of breeding livestock; animals are kept in huge sheds divided into cages of very little measures, calls "feedlots", consequently each shed makes maximum use of the space that is available.
In these farms animals are kept stationary at grease and supercharged for 3-5 months and then slaughtered.
USA boast over 100 million cattle, over 58 million pigs and a very high number of sheep.
The breedings are distinguished between holdings animals used for milk and holdings animals for slaughter.
The slaughter areas include Texas and the Occidental Mountains, where there is a great availability of grasslands for grazing; the areas where farming has as its aim the milk are the North-East, the Appalachian Mountains and the Great Lakes area, this part of the territory is called "dairy belt".

The cultures are divided in so-called belt.

The 'wheat belt'

The "wheat belt", which comprises the central part of the U.S. territory, is characterized by a dry climate, therefore not suitable for other types of culture.
The cultivation of wheat is also practiced in some states of North as Minnesota, Dakota and Montana, where the grain is cultivated in spring because the winter is too cold.
This culture is also widespread in some areas of the South as Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma, where the grain is cultivated in autumn.

The 'corn belt'

The "corn belt", the belt of maize, comprises those States which enjoy a mild climate throughout the year like Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska.
Thanks to the very high production, USA is the first world producer of  maize in addition to this, was recently added the production of soya called "corn-soy belt".

The 'cotton belt'

The "cotton belt", that there is almost no more, is now limited to Texas, Mississippi, Arizona and California.
In the areas most South, cultivation was replaced by other popular products on the market which require the same climatic conditions such as tobacco, rice, peanuts and sugar canes.

The horticulture

The horticulture is also very important and it is practiced in the Northeast near to large megalopolis where there is a great demand for perishable products (consumables in little time). Horticulture is also common in California and Florida.

TIMBER

Remarkable is also the production of timber, thanks to more than 300 million hectares of forests, which allow a production of 500 million cubic meters of timber per year.

FISHING

With 5.6 million tonnes of fish products, USA are the 5' world country more fishful after China, Peru, Japan and Chile.
In California and in the Gulf of Mexico is also flourishing farming of oysters and shellfish.
